Introducing Students@AI Vancouver
Nurturing agency in the age of AI
AI is rapidly changing the world, but it's not at all clear how. Future jobs are going to be different. The skills we need are going to change. The way we communicate, the relationships we build, the way we learn is all going to change. And to top things off, it seems like every other day that we hear about a new AI that is even smarter, faster, and better than the smartest human. They say history is being made, but where does that leave us?
The burden of the unknown is at once crushing and fleeting. It's frankly scary to look into the uncertain future, and to live in that fear can be easily crippling. But it's also easy to look away and shelter in the certain bubble of today.
We don't think either of these options are right. The future should be exciting, and AI truly is a marvel. But for this to be true, we need the right skills, understanding, and community that can lead and create that future.
This is why we've hosting Students@AI. It's a monthly meet-up for students from 1-92 to discuss what AI means for our lives. Each session is focused on a different theme -- like prompt engineering, the labour market, or creativity -- and will feature a variety of speakers, activities, and workshops to explore different dimensions of AI and its impact on society.
Our goal is to create a community of passionate, motivated, and capable students who have the knowledge and expertise to thrive in an AI age. Ultimately, Students@AI is about nurturing agency. The future may be uncertain, but we are so lucky as to live through history, and we think we should play a role in shaping it.
Meet-ups are hosted monthly at Young Guns Studio in Vancouver. It’s free to attend and we’ll have refreshments – just bring your curiosity + 2 friends. Come drop by!
